Andina copper output to be unaffected by plans to halt underground ops in 2022, Codelco says

Union workers blocked access to Codelco’s Andina copper mine in Chile on Monday November 27 to protest the planned closure of the division’s underground operations in 2022, but the company maintains that the plans to halt these operations will not affect the mine’s current production levels.

“Andina’s union leaders have known for several months that 2022 is the year in which underground operations [at the mine] would be halted due to the depletion of its reserves,” Codelco said. “The details of this situation have been explained to them.
