EUROPE HRC: Buyers resist Southern European mills' price increases

Domestic steel mills in Southern Europe have sought to impose higher prices for hot-rolled coil (HRC), but these have not been reflected in deals, sources told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday November 29.

Metal Bulletin’s weekly domestic price assessment for HRC in Southern Europe was unchanged over the week at €500-520 ($594-618) per tonne ex-works on Wednesday.
The lower end of the assessment represented the latest deals in Italy, while the upper end reflected prices in Spain.
In the meantime, Italian steelmakers have pushed official offers up to €520-540 per tonne ex-works. Although no deals have been reported at these prices, the mills are likely to achieve the increase in the first quarter of 2018, according to market sources.
