MEIS 2017: Egypt’s demand for billet to rise in favorable market

Demand for steel billet in Egypt is expected to increase over the next several years because of favorable market conditions, Metal Bulletin has learnt during its 21st Middle East Iron & Steel Conference in Dubai.

According to market participants, there are three major factors that will influence this situation. These are the recent implementation of a permanent import duty on rebar, growing long steel rolling capacities inside the country and the potential for increased consumption.
