UK SCRAP: Grade 5C market hits a four-week rally

UK light iron scrap market prices have climbed by another £5 per tonne in the past week, rounding off a four-week run of steady gains against steady increases in export prices, particularly to Turkey.

Metal Bulletin assessed the price of United Kingdom grade-5C scrap at £90-115 ($121-154) per tonne on Friday December 8, marking a new peak for the current quarter. The market, which hit a three-year peak of £95-130 per tonne in the first half of September, was at £70-95 per tonne four weeks ago.
The UK market has tracked price increases in the Northern European scrap trade to Turkey and to the Indian subcontinent.
