GLOBAL SILICON WRAP: Chinese market bounces back; Europe remains quiet

China’s silicon export price rebounded in Metal Bulletin’s pricing session last week, while the European market was subdued.

The grade 553 silicon metal, basis 98.5%, export price from China climbed up to $1,740-1,800 per tonne on Friday December 8, up 1.7% from the previous assessment.

The extensive tender purchases from Japanese buyers over the past two weeks means quite a large proportion of forward cargoes in the next few months are pre-booked. This means the spot availability of silicon metals are expected to be limited, especially since several refineries in Sichuan province have already shuttered...
