Enami suspends ops at Paipote copper smelter in Chile due to strike

Chile’s Empresa Nacional de Mineria (Enami) has suspended operations at its Paipote copper smelter in the country’s Atacama region after workers took strike action, the state-owned firm said on Tuesday December 12.

“The mobilization does not affect the system of reception of mining products, so the minerals and concentrates from small mining producers will continue to be received under normal conditions,” Enami said.
The company added that it will continue to receive concentrates under contracts only until the capacity of the hoppers gets full.
The strike began at midnight on Tuesday, after the Sindicato Nº 2 de Trabajadores union rejected Enami’s contract offer.
