Winter lull hits US aluminium market despite 232 uncertainty

The US Midwest aluminium spot premium has stayed unchanged for the fifth week in a row, with the spot market seeming to fall into a lull ahead of the Christmas holiday.

American Metal Market’s latest assessment of the US Midwest aluminium premium remained at 9.25-9.5 cents per lb, where the price has stayed since November 7. The premium has held above the 9-cent-per-lb level since late September.
Market participants said that many of their colleagues have opted to take vacations before the Christmas and New Year period - effectively making the already-quiet spot market that much starker.

But while current spot rates are staying flat, US Midwest premium futures appear to be rising in reaction to recent reports...
