Cobalt output at Glencore’s Katanga will reach 34,000 tpy in fiscal 2019

Cobalt production at Glencore’s Katanga mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will more than triple between the 2018 and 2019 financial years, according to the latest forecasts from Katanga Mining.

Cobalt output is expected to total 34,000 tonnes in the 2019 financial year, and 32,000 tonnes the year after, up from 11,000 tonnes in the 2018 financial year. Katanga Mining will invest $15.8 million to reduce bottlenecking at the cobalt processing circuit of Kamoto Copper Company (KCC) in Lualaba Province in the DRC.
