Southern Peru's copper production unaffected by strike, sources say

A three-week strike at Southern Peru Copper Corp (SPCC) has had no material impact on the miner’s copper production, industry sources familiar with the matter told Metal Bulletin.

With workers blocking the railroad used by the company to transport concentrates from its mines to the Ilo smelter and refinery, SPCC used trucks to move the material around. “The strike did not affect their production,” one industry source said. A second source agreed, adding that SPCC’s shipments in November and December remained at normal levels and no disruptions were expected for January’s exports. “The company is operating within its normal [shipments] schedule,” the above source told Metal Bulletin.
