US copper contract negotiations enter final phase

Copper market participants in the United States will be wrapping up annual contracts for 2018 over the next few days as the holiday season looms for the industry, with early opinions mixed on the outcome of talks.

The US copper cathode premium was flat at 5.25-5.75 cents per lb delivered to the US Midwest on Tuesday December 12, according to American Metal Market's assessment.
The culmination of months of negotiations is about to reach a conclusion, with the mating season resulting in around 75-80% of all tonnage contracted for 2018 between producers, suppliers, traders and consumers.
