US copper scrap suppliers eye overseas markets

Some copper scrap suppliers are shifting their focus overseas due to spotty demand in the US domestic market and more aggressive foreign offers.

Despite pressure from the overseas market, however, adequate scrap availability in the United States has largely put a lid on prices, according to market participants.
Copper and brass scrap prices and discounts were unchanged almost across the board - with the exception of yellow brass solids, which moved up an average of 3.5 cents on Wednesday January 17, according American Metal Market’s latest assessment.
