US brass scrap prices inch up, copper scrap steady

While the US brass scrap market stepped higher on firm domestic demand and stiff overseas competition, copper scrap remained lackluster due to ample supply and limited spot demand.

Brass ingot makers’ copper scrap discounts narrowed across the board in American Metal Market’s latest assessment on Wednesday January 24. Discounts for No2 copper and light copper both dropped by 2 cents per lb, while that for No1 copper slipped by 1 cent, and that for No1 bare bright stepped down by a penny on the low end of the range.
