China’s Dec copper scrap imports drop on stricter regulation; 2017 up 6%

China’s copper scrap imports declined 20% year on year in December 2017 due to tightening import regulations, though tonnage for the whole year increased 6% because of better discounts and higher copper prices over the year.

China imported 263,513 tonnes of copper scrap in December, down 19.81% from the previous year and 2.78% month on month, according to Chinese customs data released on January 25.
The new regulations have been applied to the market since the fourth quarter of 2017.
