SE Asia billet import prices narrow upward on China’s absence

Import prices for steel billet in Southeast Asia narrowed upward after Chinese mills abruptly withdrew from the export market, while thin trading kept slab import prices flat over the week.

Metal Bulletin’s assessment of import prices for billet in Southeast Asia was $535-545 per tonne cfr for the week ended Monday January 29, narrowing upward from $530-545 per tonne cfr a week earlier.
Deals involving cargoes from the Commonwealth of Independent States were heard concluded at $543 per tonne cfr, while Middle Eastern billet was sold at $538 per tonne cfr.
A major trading company sold India-origin position cargo at $520 per tonne cfr to Thailand, sources said.
