US company's graphite electrode deals signal costs may be easing

A major US graphite electrode producer has locked up 2018 contracts that are as much as $2.71 per lb higher than at the end of last year but prices might have reached their peak.

Independence, Ohio-based Graftech International Ltd has indicated its annual contracts for 2018 will average $10,064 per tonne ($4.57 per lb) compared with an average selling price of $4,100-4,150 per tonne ($1.86-1.88 per lb) for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2017.
