Transparency sought for US Midwest aluminium premium

The aluminium market in the United States is in the crosshairs of outside political pressure and a natural deficit in primary supply, and is seeking a source of clarity and transparency with its premium assessments, American Metal Market has learned.

American Metal Market and Metal Bulletin are proposing to increase the frequency of its aluminium P1020 delivered US Midwest assessment to twice per week from the current once per week. The proposal is based on discussions with market sources in recent years, who have indicated that it would be beneficial on commercial contracts for users of the premium to have access to dynamic prices that change as market activity shifts throughout the week - or reflect a lack of such shift.
