Trucking drives US Midwest aluminium premium up

The Midwest aluminium premium has jumped more than 15% in the United States during the past week, with market participants noting that tightness in the availability of trucks is being felt on prices.

American Metal Market’s latest assessment of the spot P1020 premium rose to 12.75-13.25 cents per lb delivered to the Midwest on Tuesday February 6, up 37.6% from 9.4-9.5 cents per lb at the start of the year. The assessment is up by 15% from 11-11.75 cents per lb last week. It is the fifth week in a row that the premium has risen.
