Quebec government body calls for restart of ABI talks

The Quebec National Assembly in Canada has issued a motion calling for the resumption of negotiations between the Aluminerie de Bécancour Inc (ABI) smelter in Quebec and union workers with Syndicat des Métallos and the United Steelworkers (USW) union.

The motion, adopted Wednesday February 7 following a unanimous vote, states "that the Quebec National Assembly recognize that the lockout decreed at the ABI smelter has negative impacts on workers, on the economy of the Center-du-Québec and Mauricie region, and on the economy of Quebec."
