Tata Steel UK likely to extend life of Port Talbot No5 blast furnace beyond 2021

Tata Steel UK looks set to extend the production life of blast furnace (BF) No5 at its Port Talbot facility in Wales, to ensure it is able to produce steel beyond 2021, according to media reports.

The India-headquartered steelmaker, which has agreed to merge its European flat steel operations with Germany’s ThyssenKrupp, has already pledged to continue steelmaking using two blast furnaces at Port Talbot until at least 2021.
