INTERVIEW: Atlantic Copper aims for record output in 2018, forecasts tight copper concs market - CEO

Spain’s Atlantic Copper will be looking to maximize output at its Huelva smelter even as it expects the copper concentrates market to tighten further, the company’s chief executive officer (CEO) Javier Targhetta told Metal Bulletin in an interview.

Atlantic Copper, which is the third largest copper smelter in Europe and acts as a key outlet for copper concentrate units from mines within its owner Freeport-McMoRan’s portfolio, is set to smelt 1.1 million tonnes of copper concentrates at its Huelva smelter this year.

“We’re aiming at what would be an all-time record output,” Targhetta said ahead of the Metal Bulletin Copper Conference in Madrid, adding that the company expected 288,000-290,000 tonnes of copper cathode output this year.
