Newcrest suspends copper mining and processing at Cadia after tailing dam breach

Newcrest Mining has suspended all operations at its Cadia mine in Australia since Saturday March 10 after a tailings dam there broke on Friday although the disruption will not affect copper concentrate supply for nearby months.

Photographs supplied by Newcrest indicated that one tailings dam cracked and broke, with slurry flowing into a second tailings pool.
