China’s CRC, HDG export prices soften amid HRC losses

A weakening of hot-rolled coil prices in China weighed on the export market for Chinese cold-rolled coil and hot-dipped galvanized coil over the past week, resulting in limited offers and thin trading for the latter products.

Cold-rolled coil Metal Bulletin’s assessment of prices for May shipments of SPCC 1.0mm CRC was $630-640 per tonne fob for the week ended Tuesday March 13, down $5 per tonne from a week earlier. Major traders said they did not sell any CRC over the past week, given the lack of offers issued by mills amid declining hot-rolled coil prices and ferrous futures. Metal Bulletin’s fob China HRC Index stood at $591.03 per tonne fob on Tuesday, down $1.75 per tonne from a day earlier. The index has shed $29.78 per tonne over the course of a week.
