CIS PIG IRON: Prices soar on strong end-markets, low competition

Prices in the export market for CIS-origin pig iron have gone up again on strong scrap and flat steel products markets, Metal Bulletin has been told. The absence of Brazilian and Indian suppliers from the market has supported price growth as well.

Metal Bulletin’s export price assessment on Thursday March 15 for high-manganese pig iron from the CIS region was $375-390 per tonne fob Black Sea, up from $350-375 per tonne fob Black Sea last week. A Ukrainian supplier has raised its offers to $415 per tonne cfr Italy, from offers earlier in March at $380-385 per tonne cfr. The supplier traditionally sets prices on a per tonne cfr basis.
