Albras to cut aluminium production by 50% after Alunorte restriction

Albras Aluminio Brasileiro, Brazil’s second-largest aluminium producer, announced a reduction of 50% in its production on Tuesday April 10, to only 230,000 tonnes per year of primary aluminium.

The decision follows a 50% output cut at the Alunorte alumina refinery last month. This was ordered by the government on fears of water contamination after heavy rainfall in the northern Brazilian state of Pará.
