Antam’s nickel ore output quadruples, bauxite production doubles in Q1

Nickel ore production at PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) surged 301% year on year to 2.11 million wet metric tonnes (wmt) in January-March of this year, the Indonesian state-owned miner said on Friday April 13.

The stellar growth in nickel ore production follows Antam’s resumption of low-grade nickel ore exports in May 2017 after the Indonesian government approved a 2.7-million-wmt nickel ore export quota for the company. In October, the company received approval to export another 1.25 million wmt, taking its total export quota to 3.95 million wmt. Antam’s nickel ore sales volume soared to 1.15 million wmt in the first quarter of 2018, compared with 50,500 wmt in the same period of last year.
