US lead scrap prices step higher, zinc steady

Most lead scrap prices in the United States have climbed higher due to growing competition for material in the domestic market following a slight renewal in export activity, but zinc scrap prices held steady across the board.

Prices for scrap lead, remelt lead and cable lead delivered to smelters all jumped by $4 per hundredweight on Tuesday April 24, while prices for whole lead-acid batteries were unchanged, according to American Metal Market’s latest assessment.
Market participants attributed the uptick in prices to renewed export demand for some items, which had previously eased up earlier this month.
