FOCUS: Manganese ore grades spread provides further clues about price direction

Metal Bulletin reported in May 2017 that movements in the spread between 37% fob and 44% cif manganese ore indices might provide clues about direction in subsequent weeks.

At the time, Metal Bulletin had observed that a narrowing of the spread between the prices for the two grades of manganese ore was often followed by a rise in prices and that a widening of the spread often preceded a price drop.
The price moves usually occurred one to three weeks after the change in the spread.
