Accident delays restart of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih blast furnace

Blast furnace No9 at Ukraine’s major steelmaker, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (AMKR), remains out of operation after an accident on April 29 when equipment was being recommissioned after almost three months of capital repairs.

“During the commissioning of blast furnace No9, a liquid pig iron emission took place, accompanied by a loud sound,” according to an official statement by the company.
“At the moment, the situation is under control. The blast furnace was immediately stopped to provide security at the production site, with the aim of detailed examination of the circumstances and [correction of the] problem,” a company spokeswoman said.
She added that no member of staff was injured.
