US HSS prices rise; tube mills hold onto margins

Structural tubing prices rose in the United States, with electric-resistance-welded (ERW) mills seeking to maintain profit margins while their substrate costs keep climbing.

American Metal Market's pricing assessment for US domestic A500 hollow structural sections (HSS) strengthened to a new range of $1,100-1,150 per ton ($55-57.50 per hundredweight) fob mill on Thursday May 17, from the previous range of $1,090-1,130 per ton ($54.50-56.50 per cwt) a week earlier.
