TURKEY FLAT STEEL: Prices steady on limited demand, uncertain market

Most flat steel prices in Turkey’s domestic, import and export markets have been stable this week, with demand remaining limited, market participants told Metal Bulletin on Friday May 25.

Domestic producers are accepting orders for July production. And with the Turkish lira continuing to lose value against other currencies during the week, imports are becoming increasingly expensive.
The lira was trading at TRY100 to $21.32 on May 25, down from TRY100 to $25.10 on April 4, according to Oanda.com.
Additionally, Turkey is holding general and presidential elections on June 24, and this is creating more uncertainty in the market, sources said.
