North American value-added aluminium shipments jump in April

Shipments of value-added products by US and Canadian aluminium producers experienced a substantial jump in April following the imposition of sanctions last month against Russian supplier UC Rusal plc.

According to data released this week by the Aluminum Association, shipments of aluminium-extruded products by US and Canadian producers totaled 478 million lbs (216,817 tonnes) in April, up 9.6% from 436.1 million lbs (197,812 tonnes) in April 2017. Estimated shipments of aluminium drawing stock, bare wire, and rod and bar totaled 109.4 million lbs (49,623 tonnes) in April, up 13.8% from 96.1 million lbs (43,590 tonnes) the corresponding month a year ago.
