BHP to reply to union counter-proposal at Escondida mine on June 11

BHP Billiton will respond to a counter-proposal by the workers’ union at its Escondida copper mine in Chile on Monday June 11, the Escondida No 1 union said on its website, which could advance progress in the ongoing dispute between the two parties amid rallying copper prices.

The Anglo-Australian mining company owns 57.5% of Escondida, the world’s largest open-pit copper mine.
The announcement comes after copper prices rallied to fresh highs.
