Metinvest to cut pig iron shipments on higher slabs production

Ukrainian steelmaker Metinvest will decrease its pig iron shipment volumes because of planned increases to steel production once a new continuous casting machine (CCM) starts up at its Ilyich Steel mill in Mariupol.

The new CCM has capacity for 2.5 million tonnes per year and is expected to be in operation by the end of 2018. The total investment in the project will be around $150 million.
The launch of the equipment will boost slab production capacity at the mill by 1.5 million tpy to around 4 million tpy, because the unit’s outdated CCM No1 will be shut down.
