Chinalco’s 400ktpy copper smelter to come online as early as mid-Aug - sources

Aluminium Corporation of China’s (Chinalco) massive Ningde copper smelter will commence output as early as mid-August, Metal Bulletin has learned.

“We started heating up the furnace at the end of June [and] it will take more than one month to get ready,” a company source said.
Jointly owned by Chinalco and the Fujian provincial government, construction of the 400,000-tonnes-per-year capacity smelter started in September 2016.
It is set to be the world’s fourteenth largest copper smelter in operation, according to data compiled by the International Copper Study Group.
