LKAB’s Svappavaara iron ore pellet plant to restart on August 8 after fatal accident

Swedish state-owned iron ore producer LKAB expects to restart iron ore pellet production at its Svappavaara plant in northern Sweden on August 8, a spokesman told Metal Bulletin on Monday August 6.

The Svappavaara pelletizing plant stopped production on July 27 after an employee of one of LKAB’s contractors fell from a gantry in the balling area of the plant.
“The injured person was rushed to Umeå University Hospital, where she later died as a result of injuries,” LKAB said on July 30.
LKAB expects to conclude its safety review by the end of today.
