EUROPE HRC: Domestic prices to rise when market recovers from seasonal lull

Domestic prices for hot-rolled coil (HRC) in the EU have been unchanged over the past week, but they are expected to move up when market activity recovers from the seasonal slowdown, sources told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday August 15.

Market activity is expected to start to recover in late August and will be back tos normal in September, according to market participants.
“The market is very calm these days, but I have the feeling that it will wake up with a shock one or two weeks from now,” a Northern European trader said.
The rise is expected to be supported by combination of the effects from a recent European Union safeguard case, recovery in demand, and good order books at the mills, according to market sources.
