Alcoa workers continue strike action; alumina prices remain high

Alcoa workers in Western Australia will continue to strike indefinitely after the company and the Australian Workers' Union (AWU) failed to come to a compromise.

The strike began on August 8 following a breakdown in negotiations about job security issues. Alcoa originally said the industrial action would be due to last until August 17.
In a statement released this morning, Alcoa said it was “disappointed that the AWU is continuing industrial action at the company’s Western Australian locations. This action is unnecessary and will only serve to impact employees through lost earnings.”
