EUROPE HRC: Domestic prices stabilize in slow market

EU domestic prices for hot-rolled coil (HRC) have been stable over the past week with market activity not yet recovered from the summer slowdown, sources told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday August 22.

“We will see some signs of demand pick-up in the last week of August,” a German trader said.
Despite the softness of the market so far in August, European steelmakers have remained bullish in their outlook for a price change in September, according to market sources.

Any rise is expected to be supported by a combination of the effects from the recent EU safeguard case on steel imports, a recovery in demand, and good order books at the mills, market participants...
