LIVE FUTURES REPORT 22/08: LME base metals climb on trade talk optimism; zinc, tin prices climb 1.7%

Base metals prices on the London Metal Exchange were mostly higher at the close of trading on Wednesday August 22, marked by significant gains in three-month zinc and tin prices while positive market sentiment about the US-China trade talks boosted the complex.

Zinc and tin prices both made significant gains of 1.7% over the afternoon, with the former’s three-month price now up by more than 7% since the 5pm close on August 15, when the metal reached its lowest point since October 2016.
Similarly, tin’s three-month price has appreciated by more than 5% since reaching a two-year low of $18,300 per tonne on August 15. Meanwhile, aluminium and lead prices are holding firm, each at more than $2,000 per tonne.
