EUROPE HRC: Domestic prices to move up despite competitive offers from Turkey

Domestic prices for hot-rolled coil (HRC) in the EU were expected to move upward despite competitive import offers from Turkey, sources told Metal Bulletin on Thursday August 30.

Some mills have already started to offer HRC at higher prices, but the rise was not reflected in transactions because buyers have only recently started to return to the market after the summer holiday season in Europe, according to market participants.
“This is the first week since the buyers returned to the market, so they are more focused on figuring out what the prices are and where they will move,” a German trader said.
Domestic prices are expected be supported by the effects of a regional safeguard case, according to market sources.
