Ferro-chrome supply tightens in China following flurry of forward sales in late August

Ferro-chrome supply in China’s domestic market has tightened after a high volume of forward sales were concluded in late August, market sources told Metal Bulletin on the sidelines of a nickel and ferro-chrome industry event in north China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Friday September 14.

"The recent price increases in [Chinese domestic] ferro-chrome was mainly underpinned by the price recovery in chrome ore and the tight supply of ferro-chrome," a ferro-chrome consumer told Metal Bulletin.

“In late August, the chrome ore market saw steep price falls while spot prices of downstream ferro-chrome products had not seen such a quick decline [prior to the release of September tenders from domestic stainless steel mills] and some ferro-chrome suppliers had signed a number of forward sales to lock in profits.
