Vietnam, Indonesia lead way in Southeast Asia steel exports in H1

Vietnam and Indonesia led Southeast Asia’s steel exports in the first half of this year, according to the latest statistics from South East Asia Iron & Steel Institute (SEAISI).

Total steel exports from the region increased by 35% to 6.4 million tonnes compared with the same period last year as the region continued to see new capacities starting up, especially in Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia. Vietnamese steel exports increased 46% from 2.16 million tonnes to 3.2 million tonnes and made up of half of the region’s steel exports.
