Asian slab import prices slide further on abundant supply, bearish sentiment

Import prices for steel slab in Southeast Asia and East Asia fell further over the past week amid declining offers, which led a few re-rollers to hold out for cheaper materials.

Fastmarkets MB's price assessment for imported slab imports in Southeast Asia and East Asia was $485-500 per tonne cfr for the week ended Monday October 8, down by $15 per tonne from $500-515 per tonne cfr in the preceding week. A wide range of offers were issued to the region, which were lower compared with a week earlier.
