Asian slab prices steady on thin demand, China’s recovery amid trade war halt

Import prices for steel slab in Southeast Asia and East Asia were again unchanged in the past week amid stagnant demand from weak downstream sales, coupled with uncertainty arising from the abrupt rebound in Chinese steel markets on Monday December 3.

Fastmarkets MB’s weekly import price assessment for slab in Southeast Asia and East Asia was $460-470 per tonne cfr on December 3, the same as a week earlier. Bookings were reported during the week for cargoes from Malaysia and China at $460-465 per tonne cfr, and the buyers were said to be most likely from Thailand and Taiwan. Iranian material was sold to Southeast Asia at $430 per tonne cfr. Prices from Iran are excluded from Fastmarkets MB’s assessment...
