LIVE FUTURES REPORT 10/12: SHFE zinc leads the complex down amid disappointing domestic economic data

All base metals prices, barring that of aluminium, on the Shanghai Futures Exchange fell during Asian morning trading on Monday December 10 amid disappointing economic data out of China.

The SHFE's most-traded February zinc contract was at 20,965 yuan ($3,048) per tonne, down 2.22% - or 475 yuan - from last Friday’s close as at 11.05am Shanghai time. China’s import growth hit a two-year low of 3.0% in October, according to data released on Saturday December 8, indicating weakening domestic demand. Meanwhile, China’s October Producer Price Index (PPI) announced on Sunday also confirmed a weakening domestic economy, coming in at a growth of 2.7% against October 2017, lower than September’s 3.3% and expected 2.8% and marking the lowest producer inflation since October 2016.
