GLOBAL CHROME WRAP: Chrome ore, ferro-chrome prices unchanged in China; market awaits direction from January tender release

Ferro-chrome and chrome ore prices in China were unchanged in the week ended Friday December 21 amid low liquidity while market participants awaited January ferro-chrome tender prices from major Chinese stainless steel mills.

UG2 chrome ore prices in China were unchanged for the second week in a row this past week amid a lack of liquidity due to the approaching Christmas Day holiday.
Fastmarkets’ UG2 chrome ore index, cif China, was assessed at $156 per tonne on December 21, flat with the prior week.
Many sellers refrained from offering last week, saying they have already sold out their January volumes and were in no hurry to sell their February units while Chinese ferro-alloy smelters showed limited interest in entering the market for procurement after having completed their restocking in previous weeks.
