Export prices for Chinese wire rod up amid low selling interest

Export prices for wire rod in China rose over the past week with mills becoming less interested with the export market ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday in early February.

Fastmarkets MB's export price assessment for February/March shipments of Chinese chromium-added mesh-quality wire rod was $490-500 per tonne fob for the week ended Tuesday January 22, up $5-10 per tonne from a week earlier. A steelmaker in eastern China rolled over its offer of $510 per tonne early this week.
