Glencore cobalt production up 54% in 2018 on Katanga restart

Glencore’s cobalt production increased by 54% to 42,200 tonnes in 2018, up from 27,400 tonnes in 2017, the Switzerland-based trader-producer announced on Friday February 1.

The increase was mainly due to the restart of production at Katanga in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Production from Glencore’s African copper assets was up 61% year on year to 38,400 tonnes cobalt (contained in hydroxide and concentrates) in 2018.
