Sales of Katanga’s 2019 cobalt production will be ‘mostly recognized’ in 2020

Katanga Mining expects sales of cobalt produced at its Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) mine in 2019 to be mostly recognized in 2020, while its exports of hydroxide remain suspended.

This year’s production is expected to total 26,000 tonnes cobalt contained in hydroxide. Katanga produced 11,112 tonnes of cobalt in 2018, after restarting and ramping up from the first quarter. Katanga, which is owned by Switzerland-based trader-producer Glencore, suspended exports and sales of cobalt from its Kamoto project in November last year after uranium levels in its production exceeded the limit allowed for export through the main African ports.
