Three of the sites are in Texas and two in Louisiana, and SDI has optioned for four of them, SDI president and chief executive officer Mark Millett said.
In the meantime, SDI is conducting site engineering while also negotiating with state and local governments about incentive, logistics and infrastructure issues, he added.
“One minute one site will lead, and then the next minute the next site is preferable,” Millett said. “It would be disingenuous to say that they are equal. But there are a good four to five that are very, very viable.”
Fastmarkets AMM has reported that Corpus Christi, Texas, was in the lead for landing the mill.
“From a standpoint of final site selection, I would imagine that things will fall in place certainly by the end of the first quarter,” Millett said.
The air-permitting process will be initiated this quarter and completed within the next 12-16 months.
